Harper Hill Church and Cemetery Camp Hill, AL |
History of Harper Hill Harper Hill church and cemetery has a very strange and unusual past. It's said that the old church is haunted by the minister who murdered his family and then himself many, many years ago. We have found some evidence that proves that the stories associated with Harper Hill may indeed be true. Even the oldest residence of Notasulga, Alabama don't remember the church being in working few of the local police officers will tell you that they have seen weird things at Harper Hill. The Legend of Harper Hill The Legend of Harper Hill is said to have taken place more than 100 years ago. It's said that the minister of this quite little church murdered his entire family and then committed suicide. For years people have reported seeing strange apparitions in the window's and even the sounds of a preacher, preaching his sermon to his congregation. There are tales of devil worship taking place in this location as well as, vandals and trespassers have taken there toll on this little one room church. PLEASE NOTE THIS LEGEND IS NOT BASED ON FACT BUT LOCAL FOLKLORE WITHIN THE TALLASEE AREA. These are alleged stories about Harper Hill. The evidence of some truth about stories told about Harper Hill can be found right on the headstones. We have no evidence that the person's listed on these headstones are the actual people in the legend. However the details in the story tell of the preacher's wife's body not being found until several years after her murder. As far as we know there has never been an official death date listed for this woman. It's said that when her remains where found that her body was badly decomposed that there was no way to say exactly when she died. The Freemason's symbol on the headstone is also odd in that the Freemason's organization is a very private society in itself. I have no details on any lodges local to this area. This person must have been a member of a non-local Freemason lodge. Again these are details to a story. We have no factual evidence that there is any truth to this other then what we have investigated ourselves. |
Investigation of Harper Hill In my personal opinion Harper Hill is very much haunted, and our team has a lot of evidence to back that up. From personal experiences, EVP's, and photo's. Our very first visit to Harper Hill came in the fall of 07 myself and Cassie Clark traveled to the location with the help of our Notasulga contact Jody Gann. As we approached the location the air changes pretty rapidly. This could be do to some altitude changes in the area. The Church itself sits atop a high hill off a beaten up county road. Our first experience there was just of feeling kinda sick, and not wanting to be there. Our second trip we took several members to the location and part-timers and had an experience some members will never forget. Upon arriving we set up our equipment and began our investigation. Since the area is small and condemned going inside the building is OUT of the question. (THIS LOCATION IS DANGEROUS, WE DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE ENTER THIS BUILDING) Investigators totaling about 12 people witnessed a strange sound. After walking to the front of the church while shooting video A very loud and tremendous "BOOM!" scared every investigator present back into there cars with the exception of a few of us who where unlucky enough to not witness this. Verification of the event was easy since all of the people standing in the front of the church where scared to death. They had witnessed something without a doubt. As we gathered our equipment and started back to our vehicles 3 of our Junior Investigators reported hearing "singing" amazed but some what reluctant to believe them, we drove home for the night. The next day as we reviewed the evidence from the night before. Just as we thought we had not captured anything associated with the personal experiences the night before but we did capture the voices reported by our Junior Investigators that sounded like singing. This EVP is amazing and can be heard by clicking here GO TO EVP PAGE. |
Audio Evidence Perhaps one of the most interesting stories I have heard came from a local Reeltown resident who informed me that he was once at the church with some friends. He received a phone call on his cell. Upon answering it, he said that the sounds of a church choir could be heard in the background of his phone call. Disregarding it as some interference from cell towers he thought nothing of it until, another friend had a similar experience but reported hearing what sounded like a preacher. Preaching a sermon. APRT has been fortunate enough to record some similar findings but to us these chants sound more Native American. |
Photo and Video Evidence Several photo's ranging from mist to vapors, lights and orbs have been photographed here at Harper Hill. Several photo's of the location have been submitted to us for research and the stories are all very compelling. Perhaps one of our best photo's comes from the cemetery. While on a training excercise we casually snapped photo's inside the cemetery when a face appeared in one of the photos. We have ruled this photo as paranormal since there was no way a reflection could have caused the image. There is no light inside or near the church it's am extremely dark location. Also the headstones inside are so wore there wasn't a surface for the flash to reflect from. This photo has been caught the attention of several web site and has won several awards from www.ghostfoto.com |
