Inside the vast and seemingly endless corridors of the USS North
Carolina, you can walk for days it seems and never cross the same
place twice. You'd think that inside the belly of this steel beast
quarters would be cramped and uncomfortable but from my own point
of view I can honestly say the conditions on this boat would have
been fairly accommodating. Bunking locations where tight but the ship
itself is very roomy. However I can see how a ship this large would be
hard to navigate for a new sailor among 2300 men.
The bunks where the sailors slept are tight indeed. Made of metal
terribly uncomfortable but definitely nothing like your mattress at
home. The shower stalls and bathroom locations are just as
un-private. There was a caption on one particular location that stated
"Privacy, you lost that when you joined the Navy." looking threw these
locations you can see why.
Here in sick bay we seemed to get the most activity. The room is just
adjacent to the surgical room and other medical related facilities on the
ship. The Bunks are two high and I imagine for medical reasons most
sailors here where kept as comfortable as possible on a battleship.
The caption here stated that while the men in sick bay weren't feed
regular meals everyday. They could have all the cereal and milk they
wanted. Cereal never meant much to me in the past however it proved
to be an odd coincidence for this investigation, but thats another
story..........
Junior investigators Brett and CoCo set on the bunks and conduct an
EVP session below in sick bay. This investigation was the chance in a life
time for our juniors. Call me bias but I'd put this group of kids up against
TAPS any day!
Just out of training junior investigator Eric has done well with APRT over
the last few months. Making his way up threw the ranks and finding out
that Ghost Hunting is AWESOME!!!
Several mess hall locations can be found throughout the ship. This
would have been where the sailors gathered for chow. However the
officers and captains dinning areas where in separate locations.
Inside the turret investigator Michelle Smith and Co-Founder Cassie Clark look
through the windows that show where the projectiles would have been launched from
the massive guns atop of this turret, It would have taken more then 10 men to run this
one turret aboard this ship. 2 turrets are located on board one in front and one in the
back of the ship.
Investigator and Tech Support Mike Donaldson on deck the USS North Carolina. Mike
has a true passion for military history as do most of our team members. We look to
coming back to Wilmington soon!
Sick bay seemed to have more then one spirit. As Founder & lead
investigator Faith Serafin video tapes the random EMF spikes in the
room Mike Donaldson Investigator/Tech Support investigates the
strange dragging and banging sounds coming from the hall way.

Wilmington, NC

Around Wilmington, NC. You'll find loads of historical locations and great ghost stories around just about every corner. Gothic churches and old historical homes are in abundance here. The city of Wilmington and it's historical society has done a wonderful job of keeping up these locations and staying in time with the Victorian style. Small Irish pubs and shops line the historical district along the cape fear river. Old remains of ships and long forgotten ports and docks dot the Cape fear rivers edge and for the souls of pirates and seaman, that might still be around the Cape Fear River I can totally understand why it would be hard to leave this place. As one person stated while in Wilmington "only the Irish and a few English could stand this place" Wilmington was built into a lush and beautiful port city. It's definitely on our list of places to return to.
